Understanding SAP HANA Permissions Tests
Determine Permissions Error by Debugging
Although it is possible to create profiles manually, it is recommended to work with the profile generator. The Profile Generator allows you to automatically create profiles and assign them to user master records. The Profile Generator is used to simplify and speed up user administration and should always be used when setting up authorizations for your employees. The Profile Generator is also used to set up the user menus that appear when users log on to the SAP system.

How do I make an authorization trace on a user (STAUTHTRACE)? With the authorization trace you can record which authorization objects are used by a user. This helps, for example, in the creation of suitable roles: - Call the transaction STAUTHTRACE - Specify the desired user and start the trace - Let the user call his transaction - Stop the trace (Important, do not forget!) - Evaluate the results.
Manual authorizations
If you have a Central User Administration (ZBV) in use, there are certain dependencies between the base release of your ZBV and the base release of the subsidiary systems. Check the compatibility of your systems before setting the login/password_downwards_ compatibility profile parameter. For details on the technical dependencies between releases, see SAP Note 1458262.

The Security Optimisation Service for ABAP contains more security checks than the corresponding section in the EWA. In particular, the number of eligibility checks is higher. A total of 110 eligibility tests are currently defined in the SOS, including 16 critical eligibility tests for HR. The full list of all security checks in the SOS can be found in the SAP Service Marketplace on the page https://service.sap.com/sos via Media Library (Security Optimisation Service > ABAP Checks).

Authorizations can also be assigned via "Shortcut for SAP systems".

This is advantageous when individual background processing or activities are not executed correctly and the cause is suspected to be missing authorizations.

So much information... how can you keep it so that you can find it again when you need it? Scribble Papers is a "note box" that makes this very easy.

Custom programmes should be protected with permissions, just like standard applications.
